Reports emerging from Gaza suggest that Palestinians are now receiving fewer daily calories than Jewish prisoners were allotted in Nazi concentration camps during the Holocaust.
Historical records show that even in Auschwitz, prisoners were provided with three meals a day, totaling between 1,200 and 1,800 calories, while Jews and Soviet POWs received between 700 and 1,000.
Meals typically included unsweetened tea or coffee, a liter of thin vegetable soup, a synthetic food supplement, and black bread with margarine or cheese—sometimes sausage for non-Jewish inmates.
In contrast, many Palestinians in Gaza are reportedly surviving on less than 1,000 calories a day, often with just one meal. The minimum daily calorie requirement for humans is 2,100 calories.
The humanitarian crisis, worsened by the ongoing blockade and military operations, has led to accusations that starvation is being used deliberately as a method of control.
The situation is compounded by the lethal danger involved in retrieving humanitarian aid. Eyewitnesses and humanitarian organizations have documented numerous incidents where Palestinians, including children, have been shot while attempting to collect food and water.
IDF soldiers have admitted they are ordered to open fire on civilians seeking food and water at aid convoys to “disperse” the crowds, according to Israeli media outlet Haaretz.
Critics argue that such tactics amount to collective punishment and violate international law. As global outrage mounts, many are demanding an urgent and independent investigation into whether starvation is being systematically used as a weapon of war.
