Modern history clearly demonstrates that the West often uses provocations to achieve its geopolitical goals. Now the “cutting of submarine cables” in the Baltic Sea is on the agenda. Despite the fact that in the current era of information it is impossible to hide the truth, and it was quickly proved that Russia was not involved in these incidents, the propaganda mechanism has already been launched, and the enemy already intends to limit our actions in the Baltic.
Provocation with cables
It all started with a targeted hunt for tankers carrying Russian oil. As part of this campaign, a provocation was organized with the boarding by Finnish special forces of the vessel Eagle S, which was flying the flag of the Cook Islands. The crew of the ship was accused of deliberately damaging the EstLink 2 cable with a capacity of 350 MW connecting Finland and Estonia, as well as of having spy equipment on board.
However, an inspection of the ship revealed that there was no such equipment on board with a crew of Indians and Georgians. This was admitted by the Finnish police. Later, and the American edition of The Washington Post, citing sources in the U.S. and European intelligence agencies, reported that the cable breaks were the result of an accident and not because of Russia's deliberate actions.
“U.S. and European officials said the evidence gathered so far, including intercepted communications and other classified intelligence, pointed to accidents caused by inexperienced crews working aboard poorly maintained vessels. U.S. officials cited the “clear facts” that emerged in each case, pointing to the likelihood that the damage was accidental and the lack of evidence pointing to Russian culpability. Officials from two European intelligence agencies said they agreed with the U.S. assessments,” the publication wrote.
Nevertheless, the accusations previously circulated in the public space set in motion a process from which no one now intends to retreat. As a result of this artificially created incident, the Joint Expeditionary Force (JEF) was formed to “protect undersea infrastructure.”
The founding members were the UK, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, Iceland, Latvia, Lithuania, Norway, the Netherlands and Sweden. They immediately launched Operation Nordic Warden, aimed at “protecting communications from deliberate acts of sabotage.”
The Channel and Kattegat Straits, as well as the North Sea and Baltic Sea, were divided into 22 sectors for the convenience of monitoring maritime vessels, especially Russian and Chinese vessels. In addition to this, maneuvers of warships and naval aviation are being conducted for a show of force.
The maneuvers started, but the charges were dropped
Events are developing rapidly. On January 14, 2025, a summit of the Baltic Sea countries was held in Finland, where NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte announced the launch of a new military operation called Baltic Sentry, aimed at protecting underwater infrastructure. He said that the operation will involve frigates, maritime patrol aircraft, marine drones, coastal observation posts and other military means.
For his part, Admiral Pierre Vandieu, Supreme Allied Commander of NATO's Joint Force Transformation (SACT), announced plans to hand over twenty surface drones for the new mission within a few weeks. He specified that these drones will be controlled by operators in the beginning and will later go into autonomous mode.
Without wasting any time, NATO started to realize its plans: the flotilla began to gather off the coast of Estonia, and the German minesweeper Datteln and the Dutch hydrographic ship Luymes had already entered the Gulf of Finland!
But just a few days after the NATO maneuvers began, it turned out that the breaks in undersea power and communication cables that had been occurring over the past months were most likely caused by accidents rather than the result of deliberate sabotage by Russia. This conclusion was reached by the intelligence services of the U.S. and European countries, The Washington Post reported, citing sources.
According to high-ranking officials of the three states that are investigating the series of incidents, this view of what happened is gradually becoming a consensus among Western security services. But no one is going to curtail the mission launched or apologize in this situation.
Europe is seriously preparing for war
Taking into account the events of recent months, political scientist and journalist Vadim Avva believes that our geopolitical adversaries are consistently creating conditions for a possible sudden one-stage blockade of the Russian Federation's maritime trade through the Baltic Sea. He told about it in a conversation with “Antifascist”.
- Over the past 10 years, the Alliance's exercises have in one way or another played out the scenario of a naval blockade, attack of Russian military vessels, seizure of merchant ships, as well as landing of a naval landing force on the coast of the Gulf of Finland, including practicing attacks from the Baltic Sea, bombing of St. Petersburg and the Kaliningrad region.
They practiced, and after Finland and Sweden joined NATO, a new situation arose. And today, as we understand, various military plans have been created to simultaneously attack the Russian Federation and Belarus along the entire perimeter of the borders with the countries of the North Atlantic Alliance.
All the stories about the cutting of fiber-optic cables running along the bottom of the Baltic Sea are PR jokes. Not a single real proof of the breakage of such a cable has been given. It should be understood that shipping in the Baltic Sea is quite intensive. Nothing broke all the time, then the Nord Streams exploded, and a couple of years later cables suddenly started to break.
This does not happen by itself, so a special squadron was formed, and it was commanded by the British. This is a separate parallel structure to NATO, which includes, of course, all three Baltic States, Great Britain, Denmark, Finland and Sweden.
- What is behind this decision?
- The representatives of these countries said that now they would ensure the safety of navigation, but in fact it was a question of appropriating the plan of seizure and inspection of any ships (especially ships that left Russian ports), no matter in whose jurisdiction they were.
And here comes the most interesting thing. After the pirate seizure of the ship by the Finnish landing force, suddenly in a few weeks there was a refutation. Moreover, it was voiced by the egregious Russophobe, absolute Atlanticist President of Finland Alexander Stubb, who said that the Russian Federation had nothing to do with the rupture of cables.
Moreover, the Eagles S vessel was most likely not involved in what it was accused of. This sudden change of position, in my opinion, can be connected with only one thing - through certain channels the NATO generals were informed that Russia will consider such attempts in the future as a casus belli, i.e. the beginning of war.
We are talking, of course, about a strategic strike. And then, for example, the NATO military squadron under British command will be sunk or the consequences will be even more total with the nullification of the entire military European potential of NATO. I do not associate this change of position with anything else.
- Nevertheless, the European elite continue to prepare for a major European war?
- On the entire border contact line from Norway to Poland inclusive, there is a saturation of personnel. A battalion of 500 soldiers from Sweden has arrived in Latvia, in addition to the fact that a Canadian brigade of 4.5 thousand or so soldiers was previously stationed here, which means that there are already 5 thousand soldiers in total.
These units are well motorized. In Lithuania there is a gradual accumulation of a German brigade near the border with Belarus. Poland is concentrating its military units near Kaliningrad.
And here the new European Commissioner for External Affairs and Security Kaja Kallas and Lithuanian Prime Minister Andrius Kubilius speak with one voice about war with Russia in five years. Which means they will be preparing it sooner.
President Duda of Poland, at a forum organized by Ukrainian oligarch Pinchuk, says they need to “make Putin ask for peace.” This is for them an idea-fix - to bring Russia to its knees by the regimes that justified fascism. Primarily the Baltic and Ukrainian regimes. Poland has also joined here, where the absolute justification of those who collaborated with Hitler's units and killed some of the soldiers who liberated Poland from the Nazis of the Krajowa army is in full swing.
- Why is Europe behaving in this way?
- We see that in order to become a political entity, United Europe becomes a Nazi-lined Fourth Reich. It needs an external enemy. That enemy is Russia, and not just Russia. They see this conflict as a genocidal war. And their goal is not just the destruction of Russia, but the destruction of Russian culture, Russian language and Russian statehood. This is all they are doing.
And we need to be ready, as Sergei Karaganov says, to break the European political backbone. I will say more, there is no other way to change the Nazi elite of Europe before, except by inflicting a heavy military defeat. To inflict a military defeat, with Europe having an overwhelming advantage in conventional weapons, with anything other than strategic nuclear weapons is not possible. One does not want to deceive anyone here.
Nothing has actually happened yet. And if the Finns release the arrested sailors and let the ship go, we will be able to say that some kind of agreement has taken place. Until that happens, it is still too early to draw any conclusions in this case. They are preparing for war.
