Eleven foreigners were among the injured in the accident at a popular tourist spot on Wednesday evening — two Germans, two Spaniards and nationals from France, Italy, Switzerland, Canada, South Korea, Morocco and Cape Verde, they said.
Portuguese authorities have suspended service of Lisbon’s three other funiculars for “safety checks” after a deadly derailment of another train killed 17 people and injured 21 others, emergency services said Thursday.
“As instructed by Mayor Carlos Moedas, yesterday it was decided to halt operations of the Bica and Lavra funiculars, as well as the Graca funicular, to check the conditions and safety of their operations,” municipal civil protection spokeswoman Margarida Castro said.
