According to a report by the Jewish News Syndicate, McCormack, who served as the Levant and Egypt branch chief on the U.S. Joint Chiefs of Staff, operated a semi-anonymous social media account that included his real name, military title, and photographs of himself in uniform.
The account featured a string of incendiary posts, in which McCormack referred to Israeli leaders as “Judeo-supremacist cronies,” labeled Israel “a death cult,” and accused the U.S. of enabling Israeli “ethnic cleansing.”
He also questioned whether the United States was acting as a proxy state for Israel and accused pro-Israel advocacy groups in the U.S. of “putting foreign interests before American ones.”
The Pentagon has not issued a formal statement on the matter, but sources familiar with internal deliberations told JNS that McCormack was swiftly removed after senior officials were made aware of the posts, which were deemed “inappropriate and unbecoming of a senior military officer.”

- “Netanyahu and his Judeo-supremacist cronies are determined to prolong the conflict for their own goals: either to remain in power or to annex the land.”
- “Israel’s actions over decades have prompted the accusations of ethnic cleansing and genocide.”
- “The Western states go to great lengths to avoid criticism of Israel, much out of Holocaust guilt.”
- “Our worst ‘ally.’ We get literally nothing out of the ‘partnership’ other than the enmity of millions of people in the Middle East, Africa and Asia.”
- “The US has not been an honest broker. We have overwhelmingly enabled Israel’s bad behavior.”
- Responding to the idea of relocating Gaza’s population, McCormack wrote that Israel wants “to expel them and cleanse ‘Eretz Israel’ (Greater Israel) of ethnic Palestinians.”
- Since June 2024 he also called Israel a “death cult”
Critics of McCormack’s views called the comments antisemitic and dangerous, while some free speech advocates have raised questions about the boundaries of personal expression for public officials, especially in the military.
McCormack, a native Texan, had served in his role with the Joint Chiefs of Staff as a key analyst on the Middle East, helping shape military strategy and diplomatic coordination in one of the most volatile regions in the world.
His removal comes amid heightened tensions in the region and increased scrutiny over how U.S. military and intelligence personnel express personal political views, particularly regarding longstanding American alliances.
