The Department of Defense no longer does “climate change crap,” Secretary Pete Hegseth said on Sunday.

Secretary Hegseth was responding to a Twitter post from CNN’s Haley Britzky, who was discussing a story about Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) cuts to climate-change programs at the Department of Defense.
“The DOD and DOGE have said they plan to cut climate programs in the Pentagon – but officials & experts are warning that climate efforts at DOD are directly linked to military readiness, and say cuts could put troops and military operations at risk,” Britzky wrote.
Britzky went on to note that CNN had reached out to the Department of Defense for comment and been told by spokesman John Ullyot that “Climate zealotry and other woke chimeras of the Left are not part’ of DOD’s mission.”
Secretary Hegseth responded to the post, saying, “John is, of course, correct.”
“The @DeptofDefense does not do climate change crap,” he added.
“We do training and warfighting.”
Secretary Hegseth’s comments come as the full extent of wasteful spending at the Department of Defense is being revealed thanks to DOGE.
Dubious payments include $1.9 million for “holistic DEI” training in the Air Force and $6 million to the University of Montana “to strengthen American democracy by bridging divides.” DOGE also uncovered a $1.6 million payment to the University of Florida to study the impacts of climate change on Africa.
“We believe these initial findings will probably save $80 million in wasteful spending,” DoD spokesman Sean Parnell said this week.
Secretary Hegseth has vowed to work with DOGE to identify wasteful spending and ensure the American military is as well equipped and well funded as it can be.
“They [DOGE] care just like we do, to find the redundancies and identify the last vestiges of Biden priorities — the DEI, the woke, the climate change B.S., that’s not core to our mission, and we’re going to get rid of it all,” Hegseth said.
